Science Education

Addressing societal and environmental challenges on a global scale requires collaboration among researchers and stakeholders in international contexts. In such settings, the capacity to engage in critical discussions in English—particularly the ability to rapidly process and articulate scientific information—is indispensable. However, many Japanese university students, having received their scientific education predominantly in Japanese, often experience this as a significant cognitive burden. In response to this issue, we aim to implement CLIL-based curricula that seamlessly integrate foundational science learning with English language acquisition. Through modularized scientific thinking tasks and structured language-learning support, our goal is to reduce the cognitive load associated with scientific English, enabling students to swiftly comprehend and engage in scientific discussions in English.
