First Special Lecture on Planetary Boundary (April 12, 2025)

Apr 28, 2025

The Spring semester of JDPSR started on April 12th, with orientation and first Special Lecture.
We invited Professor Nina Yasuda (The University of Tokyo) as a lecturer, and learned and discussed about the interrelations between the ecosystem and human activities based on the nine Planetary Boundaries that were first argued by W. Steffen et al., (Science 347, 1259855 in 2015).

Students discussed on several questions set by Professor Yasuda, shared views and ideas from the point of their regions and countries of their origins. The discussion also touched the issues such as ethical aspect of conservation and the confrontation of the Rich countries and the Global South, or the rich and the poor in a country, regarding required behavioural changes in economic lifestyles. Students are expected to think about the direct and indirect relationships between the planetary sustainability and their research.
