Second Special Lecture - JDPSR (April 19, 2025)
Apr 28, 2025
The second special lecture of JDPSR was conducted on April 19. Professor Shinichi Takeuchi (Tokyo University of Foreign Studies) gave a lecture on the society, loss of biodiversity in Tanzania (Lake Victoria region), and their relations with the global economy and conflicts. The point of discussion was mainly the poverty and conflicts that are connected to the problems on the African continent in the context of sustainability research.
Participants discussed the issues of economic activities, the relationship between international power confrontations, and various conflicts within Africa. Students were of the opinion that a long history of civil wars has been a major contributor to poverty in the African region. It was also discussed that the problems regarding the deteriorated living standards, including lack of clean water, health care and education, have greatly impacted children and women.
Students are encouraged to reflect further on the issues discussed in the lecture through the lens of sustainability.
