On December 6th, 2022, the 1st open seminar of the West Tokyo Joint Center for Sustainability Research and Implementation was held at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology.
Dr. Naoko Ellis and Dr. Derek Gladwin from University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada were invited as the first lecturer for the seminar, and they gave a lecture on the topic of “University Education in a time of Climate Emergency”.
In 2022, a transdisciplinary collaborative PhD pilot program was built at UBC, which aims to address the complexities of the climate emergency within higher education. Dr. Naoko and Dr. Derek shared their experiences building the program during the seminar.
About 40 faculty members/students (including online) participated in the seminar. They exchanged their opinions and an active discussion was held during the Q & A session.
