On Thursday, February 2, 2023, a doctoral thesis defense was held for our student Teeba M. Mohammed in the Medium Conference Room at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies with the participation of the faculty and students of the department. Five professors, Prof. Chitose (TUAT), Prof. Yamamoto (UEC), Prof. Matsukuma (TUFS), Prof. Nakayama (TUFS) and Prof. Takeuchi(TUFS) served as judges.
Several necessary meetings were held after the thesis defense, and it was confirmed that Teeba M. Mohammed had successfully passed the doctoral thesis defense and acquired a doctorate. Congratulations to her!
Here is the message from Teeba:
“Describing a PhD program as difficult would be an understatement. Sometimes, you’d doubt your topic choices because of data shortages or inability to finish on time. Perhaps you’d face pressure due to your personal life or fall very ill during the program. And with limited time and social interactions, this will feel like sinking to the dark bottom of the sea with no energy and fewer chances to surface for air.
The good news is that it is normal and TEMPORARY. So my advice to students is to keep pushing forward no matter the hurdles, and just like swimming, you need to decide which way is up, imagine the light, even if you can’t see it, and go for it. It will feel right once you break the surface. Best of luck!”
